Clip Show posts are just snippets of thoughts from shows that I didn’t think deserved a whole post.

Desperate Housewives
“I Guess This Is Goodbye”
Very disappointing season finale, especially with the exciting lead-up episodes.  In fact, was there really a cliff-hanger at all?  OK, Paul is back and there was a baby switch up.  Really?  Is that it?  So far, the most exciting thing about next season is the addition of Vanessa Williams.

How I Met Your Mother
“The Wedding Bride”
At first I thought this was the season finale, but thankfully, it was not.  I’ve come to expect great season finales from the writers of HIMYM!   The movie within a show, The Wedding Bride, was funny enough that I wished I could just sit through the movie instead of a the rather boring episode.  Looking forward to more clips from the movie, whether in future HIMYM episodes, or online somewhere.

“A Deadly Game”
Another disappointing episode!  Hadn’t we been reading for the last several weeks that there would be a big development in the Castle/Beckett relationship?  But I shouldn’t have been surprised.  I predicted way back when that nothing would really happen.

The Middle
“Average Rules”
Finally!  A wonderful season finale!  I laughed, I cried, I nearly proclaimed this show the funniest one on television!  The lovability of these so-called average characters just keeps growing and growing.

Modern Family
“Family Portrait”
Excellent episode.  Especially clever way of using text messages to create a misunderstanding.  And even though most critics seem to dislike the voiceovers at the end of each episode, I find them sweet and a nice way to wrap up each show.

“Pascal’s Triangle Revisited”
Why am I such a sucker for a Jeff/Annie kiss?  After I watched this episode, I bought Season 1.

Desperate Housewives
“The Ballad of Booth (1)”
Nothing new happened in this episode, except to set the stage for a lot of action next week.  These of types episodes are necessary, but not particularly exciting.

Modern Family
Very funny and sweet episode, but I’m not sure it was worth all the hype.   I’ve always wondered if these types of episodes are worth the cost of traveling all the way to a special, remote location.  Does the extra excitement of Hawaii really bring that many extra eyeballs to all those commercials?

A Glitch in TV Land

May 5, 2010

Currently watching Modern Family and Luke just referenced a plane crashing on a desert island “like in Lost“.  But Julie Bowen was in Lost!  To me, this is a glitch in TV land.  Would they have watched Lost and said, “Hey, that woman that Jack is married to looks a lot like you, Mom!”?

Made me think of this article on Kottke.

Update: Interesting thought from Cultural Learnings:

Nice little Lost connection with Luke terrifying Claire by bringing up the show’s plane crash – Bowen, of course, has a recurring role on Lost, and I wonder if perhaps she booked a sixth season cameo for when she would be in Hawaii shooting Modern Family? Just a thought.
