Masterpiece Mystery

November 12, 2010

I think I have mentioned before that I have the luxury of occasionally watching TV while I work.  Most of the time, that means watching what is on my mother’s DVR (I work at her business).  And that means Masterpiece Mystery.  But for once, the Masterpiece Mystery is on my DVR as my husband and I are watching the new Sherlock mini-series.  It’s Sherlock Holmes remade into modern times.  Very entertaining, and I also find it to be exactly how I would picture Sherlock if he lived today!  I thoroughly enjoyed Sherlock’s way of commandeering the police’s press conference with all his “Wrong” text messages.

If you’re not watching Sherlock, you are missing out!

I haven’t really decided how I feel about Desperate Housewives this season.  In some ways, it’s been more entertaining than the past few, with the addition of Vanessa Williams (love her!) and the return of Paul Young.  But the individual story lines seem a bit disjointed.  Where are the great, over-arching plot lines that bring us back each week?  The best one this season is Gabby’s daughter mix-up, but even that is just so-so.  And Brie is dating a younger man.  Really?  That’s it?  I think it’s time to get rid of Brie.  Susan’s problems are just sad, and Lynette is dealing with her mother-in-law.  Where are the nosy Susan and sly Lynette?

This is a show I will probably not be dropping any time soon, but I do hope it improves.  But let’s face it, when a show makes it to its seventh season with mostly the same main characters, it’s hard to find new plot lines.  We may be seeing the last (or nearly last) season of this show.

And P.S. When are we going to resolve the cliff-hanger from last season?  Am I remembering correctly that we never saw what happened to the serial strangler?

UPDATE: I wrote this before watching the most recent episode.  The episode was fine, but the ending was great!  Finally, a good twist!

Better With You

November 10, 2010

I gave this show a chance, but could hardly make it through the pilot.  Granted, I have always held the rule to not judge a show by its pilot, but this season, I’m making exceptions!  With my first child on the way, I’m trying to be extra particular about what shows I watch so getting through them doesn’t take away my whole evening.  So although I really do like Joanna Garcia, I just couldn’t justify spending 30 minutes a week watching.  It’s ratings are pretty high, though I suspect it’s due to being sandwiched between The Middle and Modern Family.

If you’re watching, has Better With You improved since it’s pilot?

Running Wilde

November 9, 2010

I was so excited for this show to start, being a huge Arrested Development fan, and of GOB’s in particular.  And the pilot actually had me laughing out loud, which I find to be quite rare, especially with pilots.  But I’m afraid the show has yet to find it’s groove, and it may be running out of time.  Ratings are low and the past couple weeks it hasn’t even been on!

I will admit that on the last episode, I had more fun trying to find AD references (“Com’on!”) than really watching the episode.  Although the character of Fa’ad has me laughing every time he’s on screen!

Let’s hope the network decides to give this show its “back 9” and it can finally find its groove, because I really think it has huge potential.

Chuck, This Season

November 8, 2010

Chuck is among the few shows that I dropped this season.  Honestly, I didn’t even finish last season!  I guess Chuck’s new abilities changed the show too much for me.  I can see myself watching it in syndication or online sometime in the future, so it’s not completely off my radar.  But why force myself to watch a show I really have no interest in anymore?

What about you?  Anyone going to try to talk me into restarting?

HIMYM Season Premiere

September 21, 2010

So… after many weeks of hearing about how this season would start with a wedding and most of us assuming it was Ted’s, we find out that it was not Ted’s!  He was just the best man, so that begs the question, whose wedding was it?  I can only think of two possibilities: Barney and Ted’s dad.  What do you think?
